Chiellini Reveals What He Said to Ref After Infamous Suarez Bite Incident & Names Toughest Opponent [ad_1]

Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini has admitted he told the referee to send off Luis Suarez following the infamous biting incident at the 2014 World Cup, but called the subsequent suspension for the Uruguayan "a bit much".

Suarez stayed on the pitch at the time in Brazil, but was later handed a four-month worldwide ban from football. Amazingly, it was the third case of Suarez biting an opponent, with similar incidents occurring during his time at Ajax and Liverpool - and Suarez served seven and ten game bans respectively for these episodes.

While Chiellini was clearly angered during the match, he believed that Suarez should have been simply given his marching orders, without the need for further action.

Speaking to France Football, (via Marca) Chiellini said: "It should have earned him a red card, which is what I said to the referee. Afterwards I felt no resentfulness towards him. I even thought the suspension he received was a bit much.

"For me, what happened during the game stopped at the final whistle."

The two players recently faced one another over two legs in the Champions League quarter finals in April, with Juventus beating Barcelona 3-0 on aggregate, and on Suarez, the Italian added: "When I saw (Suarez) in the Champions League quarter-final I had no problem greeting him. I was only thinking about the game."

When asked what the two of them talked about after embracing at the final whistle, Chiellini remained tight-lipped: "Let's just say I was jealous of his long hair! In all seriousness, I like going against great strikers. I've always liked to face the best."

Chiellini offered the highest of praise for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, a man he duelled on many occasions, especially when the Swede was playing in Serie A for Juventus, Internazionale and A.C. Milan.

"Zlatan Ibrahimovic, the most formidable striker I've ever seen, would be one other example."
