Barcelona Need to Raise a Reported €100m Before They Can Buy Players This Summer [ad_1]

Barcelona are set to perform major squad surgery this summer and reportedly have their eye on four key targets as a result - Philippe Coutinho, Marco Verratti, Hector Bellerin and Theo Hernandez - but it will take serious fundraising efforts first to even make those buys possible.

Money has generally been tight at Camp Nou in the last couple of years and, according to AS, Barça have just €25m currently available to spend on new players after expensively bringing in Andre Gomes for a fee of up to €55m last summer.

As such, sales will have to done before the majority of the purchasing can begin.

President Josep Maria Bartomeu is said to be well aware he cannot sanction mass spending until a number of players - worth up to €100m or more - have been moved on.

Turkish midfielder Arda Turan and French defender Jeremy Mathieu are expected to be two of the first names pushed out of the door. Other reports in recent days have claimed that flop striker Paco Alcacer, the aforementioned disappointing Gomes, Denis Suarez and even long serving star Javier Mascherano could be sold to make funds available.

Exactly how much money will be required remains to be seen. Left-back Hernandez, currently with Atletico Madrid, is the only player with a set price - his €24m release clause will likely need to be triggered for a deal to be completed.

With regard to the other three, Barça are somewhat at the mercy of the selling clubs.

Liverpool will demand as much as they can for Coutinho and likely take into the account the €82m that Luis Suarez was sold for two years ago.

Arsenal are reportedly looking for €40m for Bellerin, while €80m was the figure being thrown around when Verratti was linked with moves to various clubs at the turn of the year.

If the money they already have goes on Hernandez, it might be that Barça need to raise closer to €200m than the stated €100m in order to carry out all of the rest of their summer plans.
