Barcelona Optimistic Over Jordi Alba's Future Despite Premier League Interest

Barcelona Optimistic Over Jordi Alba's Future Despite Premier League Interest [ad_1]

Barcelona believe defender Jordi Alba is happy to stay at the Nou Camp next season, after what has been a difficult year for the Spaniard.

At times this season Alba has found himself out of the starting eleven, as Luis Enrique has tried multiple solutions to fix the sides leakier than normal backline.

As reported by Marca, it is believe the promise of a new coach next season has convinced the former Valencia left back to rethink leaving the Catalan side this summer.

Alba had been linked with Premier League heavyweights Manchester United and Chelsea, and would suit a wing back role under Conte in his preferred system, while United's Jose Mourinho seems uncertain on whether to persist with current left back incumbent Luke Shaw for the long term.

The 28-year-old, who arrived at the Camp Nou in 2012, could prove a difficult player to replace, and with Barcelona already resigned to spending big on the right hand side of the back four, the club is likely to put effort into keeping Alba on the left.

This summer will be particularly interesting for Barcelona. The club will have a new manager for next season, and, for the first time in several years, face something of a rebuilding project with ageing stars and a substandard defence caught out this season when competing on all fronts.
