Spanish Reports Claim Lionel Messi Has Asked Barcelona to Sign Star Liverpool Midfielder [ad_1]

​Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has asked his club to sign a new midfielder in the summer as he believes the squad needs a bit of sprucing up - suggesting either Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho or Paris Saint-Germain ace Marco Verratti.

According to notorious Spanish rumourmongers Don Balon, Messi isn't satisfied with the current crop of players at the Camp Nou. The side were recently dumped out of the Champions League by Juventus, having clawed their way back from a huge deficit against PSG, and still have quite the task of battling Real Madrid for the La Liga title.

Don Balon are also claiming that Denis Suarez, Arda Turan and Rafinha could all depart the club in the summer to make way for a big-money signing.

Brazilian Coutinho has been tipped for a move to Barcelona for some time, but signed a new deal with Liverpool in January. However, it is still feared that he may decide to exit if Barcelona do come calling.

He has scored 14 goals along with six assists for club and country this season, and is one of the main reasons for the Andfield side's upturn in form. The Reds now look set to qualify for the Champions League, and could further solidify their chances with a win against Watford at Vicarage Road on Monday.

They would surely love to have Coutinho in the side next term. Yet it could be a struggle holding on to him once the season comes to a close.
